JackMcDade.com is [re]Launched!
Posted on 16. Feb, 2009 by Jack in Design, Personal
I’m back in business after being totally inactive for…well, ever. I’ve launched this time on (blasphemy, I know!) WordPress using (gasp) a WooThemes template! It definitely feels weird and frankly a bit wrong, being a designer and ExpressionEngine developer, but sometimes what’s more important is actually GETTING SOMETHING DONE. And by doing this, I’m able to actually just blog and not worry about design tweaks, feature add-ons, and the constant fiddling and mucking that has happened every other time I’ve launched my own site.
So there you go. I do what I have to, to get it done. Stop on back sometime! Also check out SmoothFunction in the near future as I work with my buddy and co-worker Tom Jaeger to launch that bad boy and offer up some sweet ExpressionEngine addons (Boomerang anybody?).

Jack, congrats on getting something going! I trust that in time you will get to pull in your EE experience into your personal site, but you make a good point: some times its good just to get something up and running.

I like what Mike Boyink once told me: It’s often better to start offering something and improve the look later than never get started. Or something to that effect

Jack…I’m in the same boat as you. I have had a generic “coming soon…” on my site forever. I actually bought a WP Theme also to alleviate the issue, but my Fiance talked me out using it b/c she thought it wasn’t right. Like a photographer using someone elses works.
But after reading this post, it reiterates my original though process. I really need to just get something up to offer my services.

@AustinSiewart. Exactly. I can always throw up some portfolio items to show people that yes, in fact, i design well. Doing something 80% of the way but actually doing it seems to make more sense than wanting to deliver a 101% but never getting there.
Not to reiterate a 3rd time, but here’s a quote from Zig Zigler: “If you don’t have daily objectives, you qualify as a dreamer.”
Just do it! Of course I say all this after not posting for about a month… lol

Coming from the case of “I-never-have-time-to-finish-my-blog-redesign”, I salute you, sir!
